Indian cricketer Akash Deep has hit a speed bump with the Lucknow Regional Transport Office issuing a notice regarding the registration of his recently-purchased SUV. The cricketer bought the vehicle upon his return to India from a successful England tour, where he made significant contributions on the field.

The notice, issued on August 11, states that the SUV cannot be driven on the road due to incomplete registration formalities, specifically the absence of the high-security registration plate (HSRP) and third registration mark (TRM). Akash Deep has been summoned to appear before authorities within 72 hours to address the matter.

According to reports, the vehicle purchased by Akash Deep on August 7 has incomplete temporary registration and registration certificate processes on the Vahan portal, as stated by the Times of India.

Although the vehicle’s insurance was obtained on August 8, a day after the purchase, and a personalized registration number (UP32 QW 0041) was received on August 9, the notice warns that driving the vehicle in its current state violates Section 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act, allowing authorities to impound the vehicle under Section 207.

Akash Deep or his authorized representative must visit the Lucknow RTO office within the stipulated timeframe to submit necessary documents, including registration, insurance, and tax payment proofs. The automobile dealership in Chinhat, Uttar Pradesh, where the vehicle was purchased, has also been served a show-cause notice, resulting in the suspension of the car dealer.

Legal action under Sections 192 and 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act will be taken against the dealership for non-compliance, as per the statement released by the authorities.

Deep’s exceptional performance in India’s recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 series, where he played a crucial role in the team’s draw with 13 wickets and a key innings in the final Test, has garnered praise. His contributions were pivotal in India’s six-run victory at The Oval.
