Speculations have arisen regarding the future of Sanju Samson with the Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming Indian Premier League season, prompting former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa to offer his perspective on the matter.

Uthappa suggested that Samson’s inclination to explore other opportunities could be linked to potential challenges in securing a consistent batting position, both at Rajasthan Royals and in India’s T20I setup.

“With the emergence of talented players like Yashasvi, Suryavanshi, and Parag, it’s possible that Samson might find himself pushed down to the number four spot, which may not align with his aspirations, especially when he is accustomed to opening for India,” Uthappa shared in a video on his YouTube channel.

Furthermore, Uthappa highlighted the culture at Rajasthan Royals that heavily emphasizes nurturing young talent, which could have influenced Samson’s decision-making process.

“Given the prevalent culture at RR, where youngsters are heavily backed, Samson may have sensed a ‘writing on the wall’ scenario, prompting him to proactively seek opportunities elsewhere where he can fulfill his desire to open the batting and contend for a top-order position in the national team,” Uthappa elaborated.

Since joining Rajasthan Royals in 2018, Samson has been a significant contributor to the team’s performance, amassing 3278 runs with an impressive strike rate of 147.02, including two centuries during his tenure.
