Stepping into the political arena with a fervor for change, Rep. Barry Moore has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the Alabama Senate seat, further intensifying the Republican primary race following Tommy Tuberville’s departure.
Known for his unwavering support of President Donald Trump, Moore, a seasoned member of the House Freedom Caucus, made headlines by becoming the first elected official in the nation to endorse Trump in 2016 during his tenure as an Alabama state representative.
Expressing his motivation for seeking the Senate position, Moore articulated, “I’m running for Senate because the people of Alabama deserve a Trump conservative and a working man who will defend their freedoms. We have a lot to do in Washington to help President Trump get our country back on track, and my record shows I’ll never clock out when there is work to be done.”
Prior to his political journey, Moore, together with his wife, established a successful waste management company, underscoring his conservative values and entrepreneurial spirit. Emphasizing his accomplishments in the House, Moore highlighted his work on crucial issues such as immigration policies and tax reductions on tips, overtime, and Social Security.
Addressing societal concerns, Moore emphasized his commitment to halting what he referred to as the “radical left’s indoctrination of our kids,” while championing “life, liberty, Christian values, and Constitutional rights.” Dismissing any doubts about his allegiance to conservative principles, Moore adamantly stated, “I’m not a RINO, and I’m sure not one of those MAGA pretenders suddenly coming to be conservative,” in a poignant campaign launch video.
Joining a competitive Republican field, Moore will face off against notable contenders such as state Attorney General Steve Marshall and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson. On the Democratic side, businessmen Kyle Sweetser and Dakarai Larriett, along with chemist Mark Wheeler, are in the running.
As the campaign gears up, financial war chests come into play, with Moore boasting $253,000 in his House campaign account that can be transferred to his Senate campaign account. Marshall and Hudson stand with $383,000 and $201,000, respectively, in their Senate campaign coffers.
Reflecting on his past electoral victories, Moore prevailed in a hard-fought primary against fellow Republican Rep. Jerry Carl last year, demonstrating his resilience and appeal to voters. Carl, hinting at a potential run for Moore’s vacated 1st District seat, has sparked intrigue with promises of a “major announcement” on Aug. 18.
Barry Moore’s bid for the Alabama Senate promises an exciting political showdown, with his unwavering dedication to Trump conservatism setting the stage for a compelling race ahead.
