In a strategic move reflecting Russia’s concerns, US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, has been notably left out of the American delegation attending the Alaska summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Insightful sources from CNN, as reported by European Pravda, reveal that Russia perceives Kellogg as a proponent for Ukraine, deeming his presence at the summit potentially “counterproductive”.
Although Kellogg has diligently shared insights gathered from his discussions with Ukrainian officials with President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, two senior administrative figures disclosed that his absence is not a major setback.
Contrary to Russia’s apprehensions, Rubio, who has previously denounced Putin as a war criminal, does not exhibit a lenient stance towards Russia. However, European concerns have been raised regarding Kellogg’s exclusion from the delegation.
“He was anticipating his attendance and rightfully so,” expressed a European official, lamenting the loss of his extensive expertise. According to the official, Kellogg possesses unparalleled insight into potential agreements Ukraine may consider in negotiations.
Anticipations are high that Kellogg will feature in future US delegations for meetings involving the US, Russia, and Ukraine.
Background:
- Trump’s departure for Alaska was accompanied by his inaugural phone discussion with self-declared Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko.
- Addressing reporters on Air Force One, Trump affirmed that he will not engage in discussions concerning Ukrainian territorial matters.
