Swedish environmental activist and pro-Palestinian advocate Greta Thunberg posted on social media about the plight of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, accompanied by a collage of three images. One of the photos, it turns out, is of Israeli hostage Evyatar David, held by Hamas militants.
Greta Thunberg Posts About Palestinians, Including Photo of Israeli Hostage
The post, made by Thunberg and members of the Sumud flotilla, is dedicated to the alleged “systematic cruelty” against Palestinians. The collage, among other images, shows Evyatar David, whose condition after nearly two years of captivity has become a symbol of the suffering of the hostages—in the photo, he appears emaciated and disoriented.
“The suffering of Palestinian prisoners is not a matter of opinion, but a fact of systematic dehumanization.” “Humanity cannot be selective,” the caption reads.
Hostage’s Family Reacts
Yela David, Evyatar’s sister, responded to Thunberg’s post. She commented under the activist’s post:
“You should do your research before posting something you know nothing about. The sixth slide shows an Israeli hostage being starved to death by Hamas. This is my brother, Evyatar David.”
Yela also shared a screenshot of the post, writing:
“This justice-seeking Greta is using my brother’s photo as an example of Israel’s cruelty. This shows how far removed people are from reality.”
The family’s reaction was reported by journalist Suleiman Masuade of Israel’s Channel 11.
The circumstances of Eviatar David’s capture
The photograph used by Thunberg was taken from a Hamas video released on August 1, 2025, which sparked widespread public outcry.
Eviatar David was captured on October 7, 2023, during a Hamas attack on the Supernova music festival, where his friend Guy (Gilboa) Dalal was also present. In his last call to his mother, David reported that rockets were being fired at them, after which the connection was lost.
Thunberg’s Arrest and Deportation
Earlier, following the detention of the Global Sumud flotilla, Greta Thunberg spent four days in an Israeli prison and was then deported along with approximately 170 activists.
Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg said on Tuesday that she and other members of a humanitarian flotilla heading to the Gaza Strip were subjected to violence and torture by Israeli forces after the vessel was detained.
According to Thunberg, the activists, who were part of the mission, which was supposed to deliver medical supplies and humanitarian aid to Gaza, were “abducted in international waters” and “tortured” while in Israeli custody.
