Israel Signals Willingness to Accept Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Proposal.
Israel has expressed readiness to consider U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced the stance on Monday, September 8, during a joint press conference with his Hungarian counterpart in Budapest, Reuters reports.
According to Saar, Israel is prepared to accept a comprehensive ceasefire agreement, which would include the release of hostages and the disarmament of Hamas.
Earlier, President Trump emphasized that Hamas must comply with his conditions regarding the hostages and the cessation of hostilities, warning of severe consequences otherwise. “I have warned Hamas about the consequences of refusal. This is my final warning—there will be no other,” Trump stated.
Hamas has since responded, signaling willingness to enter immediate negotiations. The group proposed discussions on the release of all captives in exchange for ending the war, a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian committee to govern the enclave. In a statement, Hamas affirmed that it “welcomes any measures that contribute to efforts to end aggression against our people.”
According to The Times of Israel on September 7, the Israeli government confirmed it could forego a military offensive in Gaza if a comprehensive ceasefire agreement, including the release of all hostages, is achieved.
