Poland issued a stern warning to Russia at the UN Security Council.
At a UN Security Council meeting, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski issued a strongly worded statement. He emphasized that if Russian aircraft or missiles violate NATO airspace again, they will be shot down without hesitation.
According to him, the allies had previously tried to avoid escalating the situation and turned a blind eye to isolated provocations by Moscow. But instead of admitting their mistakes, the Kremlin continued to deny everything and spread lies.
“This is part of a hybrid war.”
Sikorski emphasized that Russia’s actions cannot be viewed in isolation. This is part of a long-term strategy: the assassinations of politicians and journalists, the persecution of human rights activists and refugees, cyberattacks on hospitals and banks, arson attacks in Poland, the UK, and Lithuania, the shipment of incendiary devices across Europe, and attacks on Ukrainian embassies.
“All these steps are links in a single chain. This is a hybrid war against the West, and we must make it clear: it will not go unanswered,” the minister stated.
A Direct Message to Russia
Addressing the Russian delegation, Sikorski said Moscow doesn’t care about international law and that it doesn’t know how to coexist with its neighbors. “Russia is driven by insane nationalism and a thirst for domination. But the empire will not return. Every attack by Ukrainian drones only brings the day when you realize this closer,” he noted.
The minister added that Poland and its NATO allies remain peaceful democracies, but they will not allow themselves to be intimidated.
“If another missile or aircraft enters our skies—accidentally or intentionally—it will be destroyed. And if debris falls on NATO territory, please don’t complain. We have warned you,” Sikorski declared.
Drones over Poland
These words came against the backdrop of a recent attack by Russian drones. Several weeks ago, drones crossed the border and struck Polish territory. Moscow later claimed the attack was not targeted. In Warsaw they think the opposite: there were no “mistakes” here.
On the evening of September 13, Poland launched an air force operation. The operation was triggered by Russian drones spotted near the Ukrainian border.
According to the Polish Army Operations Command, both Polish and NATO-allied aircraft were scrambled. In addition, air defense units and radar systems were put on alert to monitor the situation in the border areas.
