Indian Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant delighted fans once again with a special Independence Day post, showcasing an unseen video capturing India’s victorious moments in the 2025 Champions Trophy held in Dubai. The video not only highlighted the team’s jubilation but also hinted at the ongoing speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s future in the squad.

Despite being part of the team, Rohit was notably absent from the playing XI during the final match. Pant’s footage provided a glimpse into the immediate celebrations in the dressing room after Ravindra Jadeja secured the win with a boundary, featuring the elated reactions of Shubman Gill, Rohit, and Mohammed Shami. The camaraderie and excitement were palpable as high-fives and warm embraces set the tone for the celebratory atmosphere before Pant turned the camera towards the rest of the team.

The video also captured a touching moment between the captain and coach, Gautam Gambhir, as well as lighthearted banter among players like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Kuldeep Yadav. Pant playfully teased Rohit in the video, capturing a scene where the senior opener was engrossed in a conversation, leading to a humorous exchange between the skipper and the wicketkeeper-batter.

“‘Kya? Retirement lelu? Har baar jeetega toh mai thodi retirement lete rahunga?’ (What was that? Should I retire? I can’t keep taking retirements every time we win!),” the Indian skipper quipped in the video posted on X.

“‘Maine nahi bola bhai, hum to chahte hai khelo!’ (I didn’t say it, brother. We want you to keep playing.),” Pant responded.

Rohit Sharma currently faces ongoing speculation regarding his future and potential retirement decisions. Following his exits from T20Is and Test cricket, concerns arose after India’s Champions Trophy victory over New Zealand about Rohit’s potential retirement from ODIs, a format where he has excelled.

With no upcoming ODI matches for India until October, Rohit has been away from competitive cricket for several months. Recent reports suggest that the BCCI may consider including both Rohit and Kohli in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to assess their readiness for future ODI selections, particularly with an eye on the 2027 50-over World Cup.
