Trump gives Hamas 3-4 days to respond to Gaza peace plan

Donald Trump has presented a 20-point Gaza peace plan, supported by Netanyahu and a number of countries. Hamas has several days to respond.

Trump gives Hamas an ultimatum on Gaza peace plan

US President Donald Trump said that Hamas has “three to four days” to respond to his plan for peace and reconstruction in Gaza. He warned that if the group refuses, “hell of consequences” await. The proposal was made public during a joint press conference in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Contents of the 20-point plan

The document provides for the disarmament of Hamas, its removal from the political role and the creation of a transitional administration of technocrats, which will be headed by Trump himself. The plan calls for the release of 48 Israeli hostages within 72 hours of a ceasefire, as well as the exchange of nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. It also calls for a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces to buffer positions and a massive increase in humanitarian aid.

Reactions

Israeli media and politicians have generally supported the initiative, although right-wing ministers have threatened to leave the coalition if the offensive is stopped without a “complete victory.” Hamas has not officially responded, but allied groups, including Islamic Jihad, have already said the terms are unacceptable and aimed at eliminating the movement.

International support

The plan has received support from Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, as well as France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan. European leaders have called it the “best chance” to end the war. It is envisaged that an international security force will be created with the participation of Arab or Muslim troops, which will ensure order in the region.

Situation in Gaza

Despite diplomatic efforts, Israeli forces continue their offensive in Gaza. At least 31 Palestinians have been killed in the past 24 hours, and dozens more have been injured during shelling and attempts to obtain humanitarian aid. The total number of victims of the war has exceeded 66,000, most of them civilians.
