Due to grid overload and the consequences of Russian strikes, Kyiv and a number of regions of Ukraine have been left without power. Water supply is being partially restored.
Grid overload has caused new power outages in Kyiv and regions
Late Tuesday evening, massive power outages were recorded in Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the cause is an overload of the power grid and the residual effects of previous Russian attacks.
Power went out in three central districts of the capital on the right bank of the Dnieper. The Kyiv Metro operated for some time from backup power sources to avoid train stops.
Water supply was also affected
Due to power system failures, water pressure has decreased in some areas of the city.
The city administration reported that power supply has already been restored in most areas, and normal water supply will return within 2-3 hours.
Ukrenergo: Effects of shelling still felt
Ukrenergo, the national operator, confirmed that power outages affected the northern, central and southeastern regions of the country.
The company said it was “eliminating the effects of Russian attacks on energy facilities in all affected regions.”
Russian forces have been targeting energy infrastructure in recent weeks. Last week, a wave of strikes on Kyiv and other regions left more than a million households and businesses without electricity across Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities are urging citizens to use electricity wisely to reduce the load on the system and avoid further emergency outages.
