In his evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that even Hamas is demonstrating a willingness to negotiate with Israel, while Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to refuse dialogue to end the war against Ukraine.
The head of state emphasized that Ukraine’s success on the front lines is directly linked to the development of long-range weapons.
“Unlike Russia, we clearly understand what we are striving for: peace. We are not fighting for the sake of war, as Moscow is doing. Even Hamas is showing a willingness to negotiate, but not Putin. For now,” Zelenskyy stated.
The president added that Kyiv, together with its international partners, is creating conditions that will force Russia to agree to a peaceful settlement.
“We support all diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving peace in the Middle East, and we hope that pressure on Moscow will lead to peace for both Ukraine and the entire region. It is important that US leadership continues,” he noted.
Gaza Peace Agreement
Earlier, US President Donald Trump presented a 20-point plan for resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The document calls for the creation of an international “Peace Council” to oversee the work of the Palestinian technocratic committee responsible for governing Gaza. The council will be co-chaired by Trump himself and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
On October 6, indirect talks between Israel and Hamas began in Egypt, mediated by the US, Egypt, and Qatar.
On October 9, Trump announced that the parties had signed the first phase of the peace plan, which calls for the release of all hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli troops to agreed-upon positions.
According to him, Hamas should release all detainees as early as the first half of next week, and the final agreement on Gaza will be signed in Egypt.
Putin and the Sabotage of the Peace Process
Russian leader Vladimir Putin continues to block any initiatives aimed at ending the war. Despite repeated calls from Kyiv, he refuses to meet with Zelenskyy to discuss peace terms.
Furthermore, in recent weeks, Russia has intensified its massive shelling of Ukraine, actively using drones and missiles, which, according to experts, underscores the Kremlin’s unwillingness to compromise.ёё
